Introduction to Felting with Alyson Baker

This skill sharing workshop is about the properties of wool and how it can be transformed into felt and will cover the fundamentals of both dimensional needle felting and flat wet felting. All the tools, materials and supplies will be provided, and the techniques used during the workshop can be expanded on and employed in a wide range of projects and applications.

The workshop is hosted by RVAC founder Alyson Baker who learned how to needle felt at a Cooper Hewitt Museum class presented in conjunction with the 2009 exhibition Fashioning Felt. Shortly after that, she participated in a felting gathering led by Hope Ginsburg at Mildred's Lane. Since then, she has practiced the craft and hosted skill shares as a point of connection between material, making and community.

This workshop will be convened in the studio of Alexander Archipenko (1887–1964), part of a complex of buildings including his former art school, on thirteen wooded and terraced acres in Bearsville, NY. This is the only home and studio Archipenko maintained throughout his international career and it is now the headquarters of The Alexander Archipenko Foundation which is dedicated to the study of the artist¹s life and artistic legacy for the purpose of perpetuating his creative message.

River Valley Arts Collective is offering this workshop for free to Hudson Valley artists.  To register, please contact info@RVACollective.org.

Space is limited–we will create a waiting list when the workshop is fully enrolled
