Marisa
Espe
Marisa Espe is an independent curator and writer based in the Hudson Valley.
She is currently the Communications Director at Steven Holl Architects in Rhinebeck, NY. She has previously held positions at arts organizations including SEPTEMBER Gallery, Bard College, the Wexner Center for the Arts, and the Mattress Factory.
In 2014 she co-founded MINT, an artists’ collective that operated a gallery, performance venue, and studios in Columbus, OH, where she organized exhibitions and performances by artists including Karen Azoulay, Ann Hirsch, Kara Gut, ATOM-r, and Kat Sauma, among others. MINT exhibited as a collective at venues including Spring Break Art Fair; Beeler Gallery; Skylab Gallery; and Satellite Contemporary.
She has written about artists including Roger Brown, Taryn Simon, Candice Breitz, Vija Celmins, Catalina Ouyang, Eileen Maxson, and Cudelice Brazelton, among others, for catalogues and publications. From 2014 to 2017, she was an arts contributor for Refigural fashion magazine.
Marisa has an M.A. from the Center for Curatorial Studies at Bard College and a B.A. in History of Art from The Ohio State University.
